Curriculum Connections

The newly redesigned BC Curriculum focuses on teaching students the basic skills of reading, writing, and math through authentic real-world contexts. Aboriginal Education and Indigenous Teachings are woven throughout the curriculum in a variety of subject areas to promote a natural flow of cross-curricular thinking.

Although the topic of Residential Schools does not officially enter the curriculum until Grade 5 in BC, it can be integrated to meet curricular outcomes as early as Grade 3. This coincides with the age of the main character in the book, "When I Was Eight".
