Maker Writing

Writers need to move

The primary grades are a time where writing is often first introduced. Students need to learn the basics, but they also cannot grow afraid to take risks and make mistakes in their writing. Incorporating these strategies into the writing classroom can make a writer out of almost anyone! Designing a classroom with different spaces in mind can offer writers a variety of comfortable settings to work in that meet different learning needs and styles.

The Make Writing Manifesto
  • Make the right space.

  • Get out of your seat.

  • Share what you make.

  • Share what you learn.

  • Give more than your work away.

  • Make observations.

  • Diversify your tools.

  • Play with writing.

  • Invite company.

  • Value exhibition over publication.

  • Game the process.
