ABOUT THIS INQUIRY

Why this project?
Our school is a K-3 green school. We are fortunate enough to have a school greenhouse, garden, and beautiful outdoor classroom. We love to utilize these spaces with our science fair project. See below for more information.

What is a Green School?
A green school is a school that has completed at least 1000 environmental projects to date. We have won the BC Green Games a few times and have received an Earth Award.

What is T-GEM?
T-GEM is a learning theory that I studied during my ETEC533: Technology in the Math and Science Classroom course at UBC. It stands for Generate, Evaluate, Modify with Technology. I chose to integrate this learning theory into this inquiry project to give it more of a focus and direction, as well as finding ways to revamp and enhance our student learning with technology.

Special Thanks
A special thanks goes out to Marlene Driscoll, whose passion has inspired this project and who is at the heart of all past, present, and future projects with this inquiry. This project is not possible as one teacher; rather, it requires a combination of passionate people and support to see it through to its culmination of the science fair.

School Greenhouse

Our school is fortunate enough to have a greenhouse on our school grounds. Through various projects, grants, and rewards from the BC Green Games over the years, our school was able to afford to build this greenhouse. One of our recent projects includes fundraising for a solar panel to help run the greenhouse.

Our Philosophy

Environmental Education is very important to our school and to our outdoor enthusiast community. By integrating hands-on learning that is cross-curricular, our Grow Plants Grow Inquiry Project has made a successful impact on many of our students.
